Square May Acquire Jay-Z’s Tidal Streaming Service [TECH]

Square Inc., the digital-payment company run by Jack Dorsey, has held talks to acquire the music-streaming service Tidal as part of a push to diversify, according to a person familiar with the situation.

Dorsey has discussed a potential deal with Jay-Z, the rapper and music mogul who acquired Tidal for $56 million in early 2015, said the person, who asked not to be identified because the talks were private. The negotiations may not result in a transaction.

Square declined to comment, while Tidal didn’t respond to requests for comment.

BBM App for iPhone & Android [TECH]

Announced today during BlackBerry Live 2013, BBM is set to go cross-platform this summer.

That means BlackBerry, iOS and Android users will able be able to chat seamlessly over BBM very soon. Cross-platform BBM is long overdue but is sure to make for plenty of happy BlackBerry users in just a few months.

The rollout will first include just chat, but soon to follow will be BBM Voice, BBM Video and even BBM Channels. Users on iOS and Android will get the same features of BBM that BlackBerry users already have so it should be pretty exciting. Best of all? It will still be totally free.

Plenty more on this to come soon so stay tuned!

Google Play [TECHNOLOGY]

Riding on the wave of iPad 3 announcement, Google has pulled together its Android app, music, movie and e-book services under the umbrella of the new 'Google Play' brand.

•The Android Market will become "Play Store."
•Google Music will become "Play Music."
•Google Movies will become "Play Movies."
•eBookstore will become "Play Books."

You don't have to be an Android user to access any of it, and Google+ integration is pretty much standard. Essentially it's iTunes x iCloud = Google Play

Apple iPad [GADGETS]

So the long awaited apple tablet mobile computer is about to be announced...kind of already has prematurely (at least in Canada). Pricing starts at $499 according to our boy Steve, and iBooks, a partnership with many publishers to offer books similarly to the iTunes based music system is in the works. Early criticism is has been leveled at the choice of name...iPad? But I guess a rose by any other name...
