Wally x Hermès "WHY" Yacht [COOL]

Wally and Hermès colloborated on what is being called a yacht/island hybrid. The Wally Hermès WHY Yacht is a floating island that hosts a 200 square meter master suit with its own 25 meter-wide terrace, five guest suites, a 30 meter "beach" on the ocean-accessible stern, a screening room, music room, open dining room, and a 25m pool around the helipad, as well as a host of green features, including 900 square meters of solar panels, and a diesel-electric propulsion system that, in conjunction with the unique design, saves up to 200 tons of diesel per year. The M.I.T. Copenhagen Wheel Project [COOL]

A toss up between categorizing this post as "COOL" or "GREEN" I figured if going "GREEN" was to get any real shine moving forward it would have be cloaked under an unequivocal coolness. So voila! The Copenhagen Wheel Project. Applauded as a reinvention of the wheel, that red circle thing manages to turn you bicycle into a "hybrid-cycle" and harnesses the kinetic energy that is created when you are going downhill, or when you are braking. When sensors detect that the rider needs assistance going up a hill perhaps, the motor kicks in. Also pretty cool is that it is all controlled by your smart phone, linked via bluetooth which provides you with information about calories burned, distant travelled, traffic/weather condition etc. Watch the video teaser here.

Recompute: A Sustainable Cardboard PC [GADGETS]

An entrant into the Greener Gadgets Design Competition taking place in New York, February 27th. The designer; Brenden Macaluso, has created the fully functional PC that housed in cardboard -- which apparently more heat-resistant than many plastics, with a much higher fire and ignition point -- 258°C and 427°C, respectively -- where plastics begin to melt at about 120°C. Some light specs include an Intel Core 2 Duo CPU, and 2GB of RAM.

Carnivorous Lampshade Robot Runs On Flies It Catches!

THIS IS CRAZY!

Here's a weird take on renewable energy -- do you have pests? Specifically, houseflies?

Then you might be interested in this "carnivorous lamp," which appears to be designed to catch flies, feed on them and use energy generated through that to power LEDs.

Only problem is it looks like a tiny disco ball or something.

Flies and moths are naturally attracted to light. This lamp shade has holes based on the form of the pitcher plant enabling access for the insects but no escape. Eventually they expire and fall into the microbial fuel cell underneath. This generates the electricity to power a series of LEDs located at the bottom of the shade. These are activated when the house lights are turned off.

Details are scarce, including the official name of this beautiful piece of machinery. Nonetheless, it's set to debut at the Geneva Motor Show in March. You can shut down any major event, and pick up that sexy tree-hugging chick on the way! SWEET!
