Wally x Hermès "WHY" Yacht [COOL]
Wally and Hermès colloborated on what is being called a yacht/island hybrid. The Wally Hermès WHY Yacht is a floating island that hosts a 200 square meter master suit with its own 25 meter-wide terrace, five guest suites, a 30 meter "beach" on the ocean-accessible stern, a screening room, music room, open dining room, and a 25m pool around the helipad, as well as a host of green features, including 900 square meters of solar panels, and a diesel-electric propulsion system that, in conjunction with the unique design, saves up to 200 tons of diesel per year. The M.I.T. Copenhagen Wheel Project [COOL]
A toss up between categorizing this post as "COOL" or "GREEN" I figured if going "GREEN" was to get any real shine moving forward it would have be cloaked under an unequivocal coolness. So voila! The Copenhagen Wheel Project. Applauded as a reinvention of the wheel, that red circle thing manages to turn you bicycle into a "hybrid-cycle" and harnesses the kinetic energy that is created when you are going downhill, or when you are braking. When sensors detect that the rider needs assistance going up a hill perhaps, the motor kicks in. Also pretty cool is that it is all controlled by your smart phone, linked via bluetooth which provides you with information about calories burned, distant travelled, traffic/weather condition etc. Watch the video teaser here.

Are You On That WIND Mobile? [TELECOMMUNICATION]
WIND Mobile finally launching. It is just a cell phone carrier after all, right? Kind of. It is a business at the end of the day, and a business hopes to be profitable (they want to make as much money possible), but the reason WIND is so brilliant is because they’re capitalizing on years of pillaging by Canada’s big three mobile providers: Rogers, TELUS and Bell. We’re not going to get into why Canada’s cellular options are so bad and expensive — Canada is a huge country, 90% of the people live within a certain amount of miles to the U.S. border, people expect coverage everywhere, it’s expensive to maintain — because it doesn’t matter. What does matter is how revolutionary WIND is to the average Canadian cellular subscriber and how much money that person will save. Here’s an example of a standard Rogers phone bill for a BlackBerry:
- $45/month for 400 minutes, unlimited calling after 9PM, and a choice of either unlimited Rogers-to-Rogers calling, my5, unlimited SMS, or an extra $100 minutes. Let’s assume you chose unlimited Rogers-to-Rogers calling.
- $25/month for a 500MB data plan for your BlackBerry (BIS not BES)
- $20/mo for unlimited SMS, caller ID and voicemail for a smartphone
- Total with fees of around $93/month (excluding taxes).
Over the life of your cell phone contract of three years (yes, it’s three years in Canada), you’ll have paid approximately $3348 to Rogers, and you’d have a brand new BlackBerry 9700 for which you paid $249.99 for. All in all, $3597 before tax. Here’s a WIND plan:
- $45/month for unlimited minutes, unlimited SMS to U.S. and Canada, voicemail, caller ID, call waiting, call forwarding
- $35/month for unlimited BlackBerry data
Sure, a difference of only plus or minus $13/month might not get everyone excited, but think of it this way… you don’t have to pay $500 to cancel your contract, you can elect to pre or post-pay, and never have to ever worry about overages unless you’ve got a lot of pals overseas. The option of unlimited anything is a downright comforting thought for consumers. As long as you can get over the $200 additional entry fee for an unsubsidized but very fairly-priced handset (note: Rogers charges $599.99 for a contract-free Bold 9700 as opposed to WIND’s $450), WIND looks incredibly attractive. Plus, you won’t get tied to the tree and spanked. Metaphorically, of course.
t isn’t all rainbows and ponies, however, as we have to take coverage (when you roam on Rogers, for instance, you’ll only get EDGE as WIND uses the same AWS 3G spectrum T-Mobile uses and is incompatible with Rogers, TELUS, and Bell), customer service, and profitability into consideration. The bet is that WIND makes so much that they can continue to save you money. Funny, isn’t it? Again, they’re a brand, brand new network, but with a boatload of cash behind them, some very smart and attractive pricing, plans, devices, and services, we think they have an amazing shot. They’ve also permanently disrupted the Canadian wireless landscape for the better, and within days or weeks, you’ll start to see better pricing from red, green, and blue. Thus giving our Canadian friends something they’ve long hoped for — competition.

Ben Bernanke Is Time’s "Person of the Year" [NEWS]
Federal Reserve Chairman Ben Bernanke has been named Time magazine's "Person of the Year" for 2009. Arguably the most powerful man in the world, due to the fact that he controls the USD which is where the buck stops, so to speak. Named the person of the year for his role in containing the near economic collapse felt around the world last year, it's somewhat a moot accolade as it can be argued that the Fed was at the root of the near collapse.
Last year's winner was then-President-elect Barack Obama. The 2007 winner was Russian Prime Minister Vladimir Putin.
Other contenders included House Speaker Nancy Pelosi, Gen. Stanley McChrystal, and Usain Bolt (Go yard!), who each received shorter profiles in the Person of the Year issue.

Rihanna Covers January 2010 GQ Mag...Topless [COVER]
Rihanna poses topless in the January issue of GQ magazine...She reminds me of a that really hot girl in high school, that you wondered "how did she got so lost? Ahh well...she's still really hot though!"
"It's relieving," she told the magazine of talking to the press about her violent encounter with Brown early this year, "because it was built up for so long, and all these thoughts and emotions have been running through my mind for the past eight months. And now it's like I finally get to let go and move on."
"I wanted people to move on with me," she continues, "'cause the last big thing they know about me is That Night. And I don't want that to be what people define me as."

King Edward VIII's Creed Windsor [COLOGNE]
I've been wearing Creed for quite some time...I have a particular scent I prefer, but I am eager to find out how the top notes of British Gin, Jamaican Lime, and Scottish Highland Pine, Duke of Windsor Roses, bottom notes of Bahamian Orange, Canadian Cedar, and Australian Eucalyptus play out. My guess is that it "...smells like rich."
Created for King Edward VIII in 1936, Windsor is now being released to the public for the first time in a limited edition run of flacons or a 1.7oz leather-wrapped, shatterproof atomizer (pictured above). The scent features top notes of British Gin, Jamaican Lime, and Scottish Highland Pine. At the heart is Duke of Windsor Roses, rounded out by bottom notes of Bahamian Orange, Canadian Cedar, and Australian Eucalyptus. Obama Accepts The Nobel Peace Prize [POLITICS]
An honour of enormous proportions, and one which the President accepted with a comforting sense of humility. Faced with much criticism, and inability to understand why the President of a country in the midst of 2 wars could receive such an accolade, Mr. Obama/Mr. Pragmatic addressed the much ado with some of the more memorable lines from his speech:
The prize includes a gold medal, diploma, and $1.4 million dollars...but can really put a price on peace?
Read the full text of the speech here.
"I face the world as it is, and cannot stand idle in the face of threats to the American people. For make no mistake: evil does exist in the world. A non-violent movement could not have halted Hitler's armies."
"So part of our challenge is reconciling these two seemingly irreconcilable truths - that war is sometimes necessary, and war is at some level an expression of human feelings. Concretely, we must direct our effort to the task that President Kennedy called for long ago. "Let us focus," he said, "on a more practical, more attainable peace, based not on a sudden revolution in human nature but on a gradual evolution in human institutions."
"So let us reach for the world that ought to be - that spark of the divine that still stirs within each of our souls. Somewhere today, in the here and now, a soldier sees he's outgunned but stands firm to keep the peace. Somewhere today, in this world, a young protestor awaits the brutality of her government, but has he courage to march on. Somewhere today, a mother facing punishing poverty still takes the time to teach her child, who believes that a cruel world still has a place for his dreams."
The prize includes a gold medal, diploma, and $1.4 million dollars...but can really put a price on peace?

Entertainment Weekly's Top 10 Albums of The Decade [NEWS]
Kanye has been crowned victorious as having the top album of the decade with 2004's College Dropout (by Entertainment Weekly anyway), though I'd imagine he'd already known that in back in1999. The Entertainment Weekly list, in my opinion has some misses...but I suppose when taking into consideration the zeitgeist of the time it's pretty close...the list is as follows:
1. The College Dropout, Kanye West (2004)
2. The Blueprint, Jay-Z (2001)
3. Kid A, Radiohead (2000)
4. Stankonia, OutKast (2000)
5. Love And Theft, Bob Dylan (2001)
6. Home, The Dixie Chicks (2002)
7. Funeral, The Arcade Fire (2004)
8. I Am… Sasha Fierce, Beyoncé (2008)
9. FutureSex/LoveSounds, Justin Timberlake, (2006)
10. You Are Free, Cat Power (2003)
I have substitutions...but I am unsure how I'll order them, so I'll list them in alphabetical order...here it goes:
A Rush of Blood to the Head, Coldplay (2003)
Confessions, Usher (2004)
Elephant, The White Stripes (2003)
FutureSex/LoveSounds, Justin Timberlake (2006)
Get Rich or Die Tryin', 50 Cent (2003)

Songs About Jane, Maroon 5 (2002)

Disposable Flasks [GOOD THINKING]
Given the outrageous drink pricing at most major sporting and music events, no one is going to blame you for sneaking in your own hooch — but when security rears its ugly head, it's way better to not have an expensive carrying device in your pocket. These 7.5 oz. reusable foil pouches are portable, freezable, pocketable, and easily disposable, and feature airtight plastic lids that won't leave tell-tale leakage marks on your clothes.

"Misfits" [TELEVISION]
Misfits, is an English television show my homie Rawkeem put me on, and it's been a non-stop veiwing pleasure ever since. Think Trainspotting meets Kidulthood meets Heroes...though originally pitched before Heroes ever went to air. The show oozes English humour, wit, crassness, and speaks to an young adult audience like very few shows on Television does currently (with a young cast)...in my opinion it is simply genius. It has been picking up mega buzz in it's native land as one of the best things on the "tele".Unfortunately...or fortunately depending on how you look at it, we here in North America can only see it online.
The show airs every Thursday night at 10pm (so check online hosting sites the following day)...check the trailer here. If you already watch the show...check this spoiler clip from this weeks upcoming episode here.

Gucci Launches "Snowman in Africa" Charity Collection for UNICEF [GOOD CAUSE]
I was recently speaking to a good friend of mine, Rayiwa, about the concept of the luxury world helping the developing world...specifically Hennessy and the LVMH conglomerate (not actually a social project...yet!)...although the tone of the conversation was comical, it's cool to see exploitation of capitalism for social good. Though the name "Snowman in Africa" does lend itself to the idea that Young Jeezy is involved...and if you follow Jeezy, you know he's no fan of Gucci...
GUCCI CREATIVE DIRECTOR FRIDA GIANNINI COLLABORATES WITH AUTHOR AND ILLUSTRATOR MICHAEL ROBERTS FOR 5TH ANNIVERSARY OF GUCCI CAMPAIGN TO BENEFIT UNICEF
Gucci is pleased to announce details of its 5th anniversary Gucci Campaign to Benefit UNICEF. As in the past, this year’s initiative centers around the holiday period promotion of an original collection of items designed by Gucci Creative Director Frida Giannini to be exclusively sold in over 200 Gucci stores worldwide and on Gucci.com.
For the 2009 Gucci Campaign to Benefit UNICEF, Frida Giannini has commissioned acclaimed author and illustrator Michael Roberts to create a sequel to his highly successful children's book, Snowman in Paradise, which was published in 2004. The new book, titled Snowman in Africa, will be exclusively on sale in Gucci stores and on Gucci.com from November 16-December 31, 2009. Gucci will donate 100% of the retail price of the book to UNICEF.

Is the Catholic church a force for good in the world? [THOUGHT]
I stumbled upon http://www.intelligencesquared.com/ and sifted through the many videos of debates they have on the site. This one in particular was very interesting, and is testament to their slogan "cool analysis of hot topics". I am looking forward to upcoming debates some of which are the topics listed in the image above...Everything a man does he does to get laid? Interesting, anyway check the debate on the Catholic church here. Speaking for the motion, Archbishop John Onaiyekan and Ann Widdecombe MP. Speaking against the motion, Christopher Hitchens and Stephen Fry.
Hermès x Leica M7 [GADGETS]
I'm still looking for a Canon G10, but my inner Birdman would skip all of that for this joint in a birdcall! However, at $15,000 a pop/shot you could buy yourself a Hyundai...or not, like one HypeBeast commentor pointed out...and another criticized LOL.

The M7 Edition Hermes sees the classic M7 35mm camera get a silver chrome finish and a choice of either orange or etoupe calfskin leather. On top of that, your purchase includes a Leica SUMMILUX-M 35 mm f/1.4 ASPH wide-angle lens, a matching classic round lens hood, a LEICAVIT M rapid winder and a leather carrying strap, and will arrive at your doorstep in a linen-covered, silk-lined box. But you'd better jump now, 'cos only 100 of each color will be produced. Available in the UK this December from authorized Leica dealers and at the Mayfair Leica Store for a mere £8,550 (about $14,250). PR after the break.
