Steven Holl Architects: Linked Hybrid [ARCHITECTURE]

WOW!

Linked Hybrid, a huge architectural project by Steven Holl, started in 2003 and was just recently completed. 220,000 square meters in size, the complex is located next to the site of the old city wall in Beijing and consists of eight towers connected by skybridges. Each structure holds different public functions and includes 750 apartments, public green space, commercial zones, a hotel, a cinemateque, a kindergarten, Montessori school, and underground parking. The aim of the project was to counter current urban developments by creating an urban space open to the public from all sides. The complex is a “city within a city” and promotes interactive relations and encounters amongst the public. The project was named the “best tall building” in Asia and Australia by the Council on Tall Buildings and Urban Habitat (CTBUH).
