The Daria Movie [TRAILER]

Is Aubrey Plaza portraying the intelligent, sarcastic, monotone '90s heroine Daria Morgendorffer everything you hoped for? If so, you have College Humor to thank for the visual come-hither that is the above trailer.

Nike Air Max 90 Essential “Infrared” [SNEAKERS]

I haven't done a sneaker post in a very long time, but the infrared Air Max 90 is my favourite Nike sneaker of all time, hands down, 6:30! My beloved “Infrared” hue returns to its rightful place on the classic Air Max 90 with the introduction of a brand new take on the Air Max 90 Essential. Donning a combination of black and anthracite throughout its suede and mesh upper, the kicks see a contrasting white midsole and metallic silver hits to the Swoosh and text branding as Infrared appears on the likes of the outsole, midsole wedge, eyestay, mudguard branding window and heel. The Nike Air Max 90 Essential “Infrared” is now available online HERE.

AGO x Ai Weiwei: According to What? [ART]

“The most powerful figure in contemporary art.” — ArtReview

Although Chinese artist Ai Weiwei is one of the most prolific, provocative and significant artists at work today, audiences in North America have had little exposure to his vast and varied output. That will change this summer, when the AGO becomes the only Canadian stop on a North American tour that is already drawing crowds — and controversy — at the Smithsonian’s Hirshhorn Museum in Washington, D.C.

Featuring photographs, sculpture, installation art and audio and video pieces, Ai Weiwei: According to What? examines how the artist spotlights the complexities of a changing world and probes such issues as freedom of expression, individual and human rights, the power of digital communication and the range of creative practice that characterizes contemporary art today both in China and globally.

Organized by Mori Art Museum, Tokyo, and the Art Gallery of Ontario

The exhibition runs from August 17th – October 27th, 2013

Bob Marley & The Wailers - Legend Remixed [MUSIC]

Been looking forward to this for awhile now, and the day has finally arrived. With the rise of electronic dance music over the past few years, it's only natural to bring the old and the new together. The great Bob Marley’s critically acclaimed compilation album has gotten a 21st century overhaul with the help of some top notch producers. Usually, I would say that these classics should be left alone but since artists like Lee "Scratch" Perry, Thievery Corporation, RAC, Jim James, and the Marley clan lend in their efforts, it is safe to say that there is very little room for error. Stream HERE and purchase it HERE if you like what you hear.

Anchorman 2: The Legend Continues [TRAILER]

The first full-length trailer for "Anchorman 2: The Legend Continues" has dropped, and it's a doozy.

Ron Burgundy (Will Ferrell), Brick Tamland (Steve Carell), Champ Kind (David Koechner), and Brian Fantana (Paul Rudd) are back, but the '80s haven't been kind to them. Out of work, haggard, and bereft of the one thing that gives his life meaning, Ron is offered a gig at a global news network, along with his cohorts -- Brick, the non-sequitur spouting weirdo, Brian the horndog, and Champ the boozehound.

Just For Laughs '42 2013 [COMEDY]

If you're a fan of laughing, and laughing hard, then you're in luck if you're in Toronto from September 19 - 28, 2013.

The second annual JFL42 is invading Toronto again this fall with an all-star line-up including headlining performances by the entire cast of "Family Guy" (joined by a 40-piece orchestra), Aziz Ansari and Sarah Silverman. Additional JFL42 shows will take place at various venues across the city, including performances by well-known comedians Janeane Garofalo ("SNL," "Romi And Michele's High School Reunion") and Anthony Jeselnik ("The Jeselnik Offensive").

JFL42 is a pass-based interactive comedy festival created by Just For Laughs. Passholders are given the opportunity to see all 42 Festival acts over 10 days, along with the freedom to create their own schedule and experience. In turn, passholders create the demand for each of the festival acts, resulting in added shows or bigger venues, all processed through an online reservation system and festival app.

Passes range in price from $99 - $299 (in Canadian dollars). Exact ticket pricing is yet to be announced, but you can visit the JFL42 website for pre-sale passes Wednesday June 19th and Thursday June 20th. Go to www.jfl42.com and use promo code: FUNNY!

NEEDS / W A N T S . SS '13 MAI ILOKO MAI COLLECTION [FASHION]

Toronto designer Sean Brown doesn't run a large fashion house...(yet), so the perils and stresses of producing garments a season ahead is not a standard. The aim is to create a bomber for Spring/Summer even though this Toronto weather has been some sort of enigma lately. After watching a few seasons of Sons of Anarchy, Sean decided to switch up the NEEDS/WANTS logo and create a reversible bomber. Hawaiian floral, but I also reversible for all who love options. Having a light 100% cotton jacket that gives the option of loud and subtle is my brilliant alternative in walking the fine line between trendy and timeless. Made from imported fabric, the collection is elegantly designed. So you can start ordering directly from the N+W site starting June 17th (with a new print releasing each month through the season). For more information check out the Sean's blog HERE.

Available in both women's and men's sizes, the collection, aptly titled Mai Iloko Mai, means "that which is within matters".

Arrested Development Season 4 [TELEVISION]

If you don't know, Arrested Development is the story of a wealthy family that lost everything, and the one son who had no choice but to keep them all together. It's “Arrested Development,” the Emmy Award and Golden Globe-winning series starring one of the funniest ensembles in TV comedy, who taught viewers the meaning of “never nude,” spread a dangerous amount of misinformation about maritime law, and reminded everyone “that's why you always leave a note.”

Season 4 begins May 26 exclusively on Netflix. Watch the new season trailer HERE.

BBM App for iPhone & Android [TECH]

Announced today during BlackBerry Live 2013, BBM is set to go cross-platform this summer.

That means BlackBerry, iOS and Android users will able be able to chat seamlessly over BBM very soon. Cross-platform BBM is long overdue but is sure to make for plenty of happy BlackBerry users in just a few months.

The rollout will first include just chat, but soon to follow will be BBM Voice, BBM Video and even BBM Channels. Users on iOS and Android will get the same features of BBM that BlackBerry users already have so it should be pretty exciting. Best of all? It will still be totally free.

Plenty more on this to come soon so stay tuned!

Hot Docs Film Festival 2013 [FILM]

For its 20th year (that's two decades in decade terms), the Hot Docs Canadian International Documentary Film Festival is pulling out all the stops.

With almost 250 documentaries chosen for this year's slate, the movies feature 44 world premieres and 45 Canadian-made films. From the opening night documentary "The Manor," which focuses on an Ontario strip joint and a family that has worked there for 30-odd years, to the enthralling "12 O'Clock Boys," about a juvenile street gang in urban Baltimore, Maryland, this year's selection offers a variety of topics.

As always, the Hot Docs Festival seeks to make its audience its number-one priority, and is still offering free tickets to daytime screenings for students and seniors. Last year's festival brought in two times the expected audience, and thousands of people around the world descended on Toronto to watch the films.

A special event this year is Hot Docs 20, in celebration of its anniversary, which will feature the top 20 fan favourites and winners from previous years, and will be screening for the five weeks leading up to the festival.

Hot Docs runs from April 25 - May 5, 2013. Single tickets and packages are now available. For complete information including Special Presentations, galas and the complete screening schedule, please visit the Hot Docs official website.

Savion Glover: SoLe Sanctuary [CONCERT]

Before trappers, there were tappers. Fred Astaire, Bill Bojangles, Sandman Sims to name a few... I idolized their ability to make music and dance at the same time. So much so I used to pretend I was a tap dancing star in my church shoes. Time has moved on and now here is an opportunity to see on my favourites live!

NOW Magazine presents Savion Glover: SoLe Sanctuary Saturday, April 20, 2013 at Koerner Hall

Gregory Hines called him "the greatest tap-dancer to ever lace up a pair of tap shoes." The New York Times raves, "to see Mr. Glover dance is to see a virtuosic and authentic artist at work." He performed on Broadway as a child and has appeared in numerous movies, TV shows, and music videos. He won a Tony Award for Bring in ’da Noise/Bring in ’da Funk and has choreographed the dance moves forHappy Feet and other movies. In a tribute to his idols, hoofer Savion Glover performs an all-new concert where his reverence for the art of tap is put to the stage, in the form of a living altar where he pays his respects to the craft that he has perfected. "Barebones and pure, full of the kind of rhythmic innovation that trips down one path, splinters off in different directions and then sweeps back home." (The New York Times)

The Caribbean Film Festival [EVENTS]

On March 7th and 8th the Caribbean Studies Students Union (CARSSU) and the Cinema Studies Students Union (CINSSU) will be hosting the first-ever Caribbean Film Festival at the William Doo Auditorium on U of TĘą St. George Campus.
This festival will showcase documentaries and narrative films that pertain to the Caribbean region, its diaspora, and will traverse a number of topics that delve into gender, race, ethnicity, popular culture, politics, sustainability of the environment, as well as the standing legacies of colonialism that still haunt the Caribbean. Our current line-up includes films with stories and histories from Dominica, Guyana, Jamaica and Trinidad. Prior to screening each individual film, an introduction will be made to the film and followed by a brief Q + A discussion with the director.
Our goal for this festival is to increase the accessibility and viewership of Caribbean-based films not only to its diaspora or within the University realm, but to the wider public. Moreover, we hope to portray the unique and differing inter-island narratives and perspectives. Please come out and support us in retelling and relaying our Caribbean stories and histories! It is a FREE event! Doors open at 5:30pm and screenings start at 6pm sharp.
Check out the event page on Facebook: “The Caribbean Film Festival at UofT”
