Obama Accepts The Nobel Peace Prize [POLITICS]

"I face the world as it is, and cannot stand idle in the face of threats to the American people. For make no mistake: evil does exist in the world. A non-violent movement could not have halted Hitler's armies."
"So part of our challenge is reconciling these two seemingly irreconcilable truths - that war is sometimes necessary, and war is at some level an expression of human feelings. Concretely, we must direct our effort to the task that President Kennedy called for long ago. "Let us focus," he said, "on a more practical, more attainable peace, based not on a sudden revolution in human nature but on a gradual evolution in human institutions."
"So let us reach for the world that ought to be - that spark of the divine that still stirs within each of our souls. Somewhere today, in the here and now, a soldier sees he's outgunned but stands firm to keep the peace. Somewhere today, in this world, a young protestor awaits the brutality of her government, but has he courage to march on. Somewhere today, a mother facing punishing poverty still takes the time to teach her child, who believes that a cruel world still has a place for his dreams."
The prize includes a gold medal, diploma, and $1.4 million dollars...but can really put a price on peace?

Obama 'Special Olympics' Crack On Tonight Show [VIDEO]
So apparently this is a big deal...Barry O was on Leno and made an off hand remark referring to the audience applauding his abysmal bowling score to that of the cheers given to individual who are in the special olympics. Maybe little of the mark as far as tact, but he made a joke on a show about making jokes...not to mention there actually being such a thing as a handicap in the game of bowling.

First Marvel Comics, now Mad Magazine. President Barack Obama, who was given the illustrious honor of appearing on the cover of Marvel's "Amazing Spider-Man" comic earlier this month, is now being spoofed courtesy of Mad magazine. Playing off the theme of his 'first 100 days,' the magazine's cover features a stressed-out Obama puffing away on cigarettes as he scans dire newspaper headlines during his "first 100 minutes."

As testament to this, yesterday my man T-Rexxx hit me up to let me know about the airing of the Get On The Bus: T.O. Supports Obama trip footage on Much Music, but I was still in DC at the time so I missed it. I am working on the actually footage, but check the blog post here.

Obama x Hennessy Limited Edition Cognac

Mr. Obama’s election set off a boom in merchandise, official or otherwise, that has come to be called Obamabilia. Among the myriad offerings are coins, plaques, plates, clothing, magazines, newspapers, books, posters, DVDs, jewelry, dolls, greeting cards and jigsaw puzzles.
By some estimates, hundreds of millions of dollars worth of Obama treasures, trinkets and tchotchkes have been sold since Election Day.
As Mr. Obama prepares to be sworn in on Tuesday as the 44th president, the hoopla is reaching a higher level with a round of products and advertisements pegged to the inauguration.
The new items include bottles of Hennessy Cognac, bearing labels that read “44”; commemorative issues of publications like The New Yorker, Newsweek, USA Today and The Washington Post; and T-shirts from the Presidential Inaugural Committee that urge “Be the change.”

Obama's First Foreign Trip As President: Canada

WASHINGTON — President-elect Barack Obama plans to take his first international trip to Canada.
Transition aides said Saturday that Obama picked the United States' northern neighbor as his first venture outside the country as president. Aides say they could not discuss the date for the trip or its agenda.
A transition official says aides to the president-elect and Canadian Prime Minister Stephen Harper discussed the trip in recent days. But the official says Obama and Harper themselves have not directly discussed the trip.
Obama meets Monday with Mexican President Felipe Calderon, his first in-person meeting with a world leader since winning election.
U.S. presidents typically use Canada as their first international trip.
"It's good news, a sign of the importance of this relationship to both countries. We look forward to hosting the new president," Kory Teneycke, Harper's press secretary, said from Ottawa. "The fact remains that our two countries are very important trading partners to one another, that we are friends and allies."

Obama's Presidential Limo Will Be a 'Rolling Tank With Windows'

The inauguration of Barack Obama will not only bring about a wholesale turnover in the political leadership of the country but it will also unveil the newest in a long line of Presidential limos.
According to Presidential vehicle experts, the new limo is a beast-like General Motors truck-based Cadillac that is so tough it's like a 'rolling tank with windows.'
Among the vehicle's main features are windows that are 5 inches thick, 19.5-inch Goodyear RHS tires (same as super tough trucks), and possibly even a lock safety mechanism that seals off the car like a bank vault in case of an emergency.
Because the Secret Service keeps details of the limo understandably private, even the most knowledgeable security experts don't really know how much gadgety tech is being installed in the new ride. But it's not stopping them making a few informed guesses.
In an interview with CNN, security expert Ken Lucci says rubber gaskets likely protect the car against chemical weapons and that the body will be made out of a tougher material than before. The most recent limo used by President Bush used some combination of a dual hardness steel, aluminum, titanium and even ceramics to break up possible projectiles. And there are usually steel overlaps that cover any gaps a door might leave.
Despite the immense secrecy, reports have leaked that the limo also comes with a 10-CD changer, which will inevitably end up playing Obama favorites like Steve Wonder and Bob Dylan. We're surprised there's no Blu-ray or Wii in there, but we're pretty sure of one thing: The limo will be a Zune-free zone, especially considering the most recent reports.

Jay-Z Headlining Inauguration Weekend Club Party In D.C.

The Brooklyn rapper Jay-Z, whose lyrics President-elect Barack Obama channeled on the campaign trail in a swipe at his former rival, Senator Hillary Rodham Clinton, will headline an inaugural weekend opening party in Washington.
Jay-Z, along with singer Akon, and rappers T.I. and Young Jeezy, will perform at the Love nightclub on Friday, Jan. 16, the club's owner, Marc Barnes, said in an interview on Monday.

Barack Obama's Inauguration Suit.
I posted the news about Michelle's dress, now designers have weighed in on how Barack just put himself together January 20th 2009.
Although the world now knows that President-elect Barack Obama will wear a Hart Schaffner Marx single-button, notch-lapel tuxedo for the evening festivities on Inauguration Day, Jan. 20, that isn’t stopping others from lining up for the role of the administration’s First Tailor. So WWD asked men’s designers what they thought the new president should wear on his historic day.
With his lanky 6-foot, 2-inch frame, basketball-toned physique and sophisticated Ă©lan, Barack Obama has all the makings of a presidential style icon. With endless references to John F. Kennedy, designers are eagerly anticipating a return to Camelot-era glamour. But Obama has cultivated a style all his own. Kennedy was a product of the East Coast establishment and its preppy, New England aesthetic, while the President-elect has humbler roots — albeit roots that led him to Columbia and Harvard (Kennedy’s alma mater). Indeed, Obama’s style tends to reflect his political philosophy: practical but carefully considered; modern but accessible.
While JFK was said to be horrified when he appeared on the cover of GQ — he didn’t want to be seen as fashion-conscious — Obama has happily appeared on the covers of GQ, Esquire, Men’s Vogue and even Men’s Health (with all his clothes on). “This is the first president in a very long time that has a great body for clothing,” noted Duckie Brown’s Steven Cox and Daniel Silver. “Because that’s true, he can wear a more modern, slim silhouette.”
For Obama’s big day on Jan. 20 on the steps of the Capitol, designers mostly see him in updated yet classic sartorial style. Tommy Hilfiger envisions a patriotic color combo of a navy blue suit, white shirt and red tie, while Brioni advocates for the iconic three-piece gray flannel suit, with an Italian twist: double vents. Of course, with men’s wear, it’s all about the subtle details, so Paul Smith edges his suit lapels with black grosgrain tape, and Kenneth Cole suggests a Fifties-era — but chic again — tie bar. Come evening and the inaugural balls, Rag & Bone and Dsquared want Obama to don a full-on tuxedo with tails, but Savile Row’s Richard James really pushes the envelope with a sequined tuxedo jacket.
Interestingly, none of the designers include that pesky campaign issue in their sketches: an American flag lapel pin.

Barack Obama : GQ's "Man Of The Year"

GQ has named Barack Obama one if its "Men of the Year" with a cover and article — penned by Senator Ted Kennedy — that went to press before Election Day.
Obama is joined by Michael Phelps, Leonardo DiCaprio, and Jon Hamm, each of whom grace one of GQ's four "Men of the Year" covers.
GQ named Obama "Game Changer of the Year," and an excerpt of Kennedy's piece appears below:
"As I write this, Barack Obama and John McCain have just completed their final debate, and the country is a few short days away from a historic election. Of course, I'm doing all that I can for my candidate. But whether he wins or loses, Barack Obama has ushered in a new era of American politics with a limitless vision of a better future that will endure for many years to come. Through his candidacy, Obama has provided a glimpse of a stronger, better, fairer America, where change comes from the bottom up, where we all come together to meet the great challenges of our time. He has inspired millions of new voters of all ages, races, and incomes to lend their voices for real change. For in this man, Americans can see not just the audacity but the possibility of hope for the country that is yet to be....
That is what I saw when I enlisted in his campaign. I saw new hope for a way out of the economic wilderness and for a just and fair prosperity that rewards the many and not the few. New hope that this nation will at last lead the world to turn the tide of global warming and turn aside from an energy future that threatens the future itself. New hope that we will teach all our children well. New hope--and this is the cause of my life--that we will guarantee for every American quality affordable health care as a fundamental right and not as a privilege. New hope--and this is the great cause of America itself--that we shall overcome once and for all the setting of race against race, gender against gender, ethnic group against ethnic group, and straight against gay.
Win or lose, with the Obama candidacy the torch has been passed, and I hope I made a difference."
