Sean Brown x The Council of Fashion Designers of America [INTERVIEW]

Toronto's very own Sean Brown sat down with CFDA to discuss Compact Disc rugs, wearing Sean John like it's Prada, life evaluations, and answers if his work's been picked up by any museums, and if not, which ones he'd hope to be in one day?

Sean Brown: For me, the real win is seeing younger people and younger Black creatives caring about their spaces at home now. I’m not necessarily trying to be a part of social constructs and institutions anymore. I look at a lot of things holistically. Many arts you see in museums are stolen from us, and then they charge us to come to view them. Now I say that, but I can’t sit here and say I wouldn’t be appreciative or honoured to see my work in a museum. I wouldn’t turn down a chance to be a part of that, but I would want to be a part of the narrative.

Reebok Can Be Sold To Master P And Baron Davis [BUSINESS]

Reebok may be getting a new owner, as its German sportswear parent company Adidas looks to offload the household name brand. Once a cultural icon of epic proportions, Reebok has struggled in recent years to gain a foothold with today’s trendsetters and tastemakers. This could be changing as new buyers including a business dream team of hip-hop business mogul, Percy “Master P” Miller and former NBA All-Star Baron Davis are looking to acquire the company and bring Soulja Slim's legacy to a whole new level, and could garner an asking price of around $2.4 billion. Is it time for the culture to take ownership of some of the products it helped to cultivate?

Remember that sneakers by rappers like Kanye West, Drake and Pharrell with companies including Nike and Adidas have created a consumer frenzy, as these influencers dictate business and trends. Cultural endorsers have basically usurped athletes as the go-to tastemakers in the sneaker industry. Hip hop artists have gone from subtle co-signers who helped start grassroots movements, to indirect ad men, to power brokers. Reebok’s latest cultural influencers to head up its roster include rap sensations Cardi B and Kendrick Lamar.

Nike NOCTA Apparel Collection [FASHION]

NOCTA, a collection for the collective, has arrived. The form fitting apparel nods to sport, but is rooted and inspired by those who roam the streets, who are on the go and want functional, comfortable and elevated everyday essentials.
The timeless silhouettes and style lines mirror Nike's evolution through the years. For this drop, an aggressive and distinct Black and University Gold color palette makes a striking first impression. A mix of functional and cosmetic details, like reflective piping and beveled swooshes throughout the collection, add subtle yet distinctive details that compliment each other. Each piece is marked with the symbols of NOCTA and the spirit of the night.

MIJLO: A Better Bookbag [FASHION]

The Better Backpack is...

1 ) A Premium Backpack That's Built to Last a Lifetime. In an era defined by disposability, we designed a bag that’s built with tough, time-tested materials, and stitched together with precision.

2 ) Timeless. If you ever feel the need to part ways with your backpack, send it back to us for a 10% rebate and our pledge to recycle it. We want the materials to live on. Let’s make this bag timeless.

3 ) Minimal. We have combined a simple, clean appearance with neutral, muted colors - four in total - resulting in a backpack that’s fit for any era and any style.

4 ) Functional. 100% cotton canvas, heavy-duty water resistant lining, and a reinforced, padded laptop compartment mean style and substance were considered equally in our design.

5 ) Co-operative. Our mission was to build a better backpack – so we designed one. Now we need your help! Let’s make disposable design a thing of the past, and let’s do it together.

Did I mention that the backpack is also $39 including shipping? So not only can you do good and look good, that price will make you feel good too.

H&M x Lanvin Holiday 2010 [FASHION]

Epic.

Lanvin creative director Alber Elbaz himself said "I have said in the past that I would never do a mass-market collection, but what intrigued me was the idea of H&M going luxury rather than Lanvin going public."

IdeaLL Clothing Wealth Series [FASHION]

Designer Bryan "Be" Espiritu does what I like to call this passion fashion. Never before has there been more blood, sweat, and tears put into a brand. You can feel the energy, and the meticulousness from the design to presentation of each piece. You then couple that with originality and you have the one of the iLLest brands out. Rumor has it there is a chambray 5-panel that is part of this collection...that's about to be my by crown for the summer!

Finger In The Nose [FASHION]

I was in NYC a few months ago and while there I was hanging out with a good friend of mine. Her and I got the talking and the conversation made its way to where she was explaining that she is starting to think about having kids more and more...which in turn made me think about having kids more and more. The idea of family and children? Good, right? Well, this makes that idea the best. Finger In The Nose. Clever name...

The brand stresses quality using 9-11 ounce denim with raw, stone, bleach, snow and leather-look washes, and real feather down for their jackets and Geelong merino angora for their knitwear. I have a nephew or niece (too early to tell) on the way, and he or she is sure to be the coolest in the sandbox...even with a finger in the nose.

YMC Pony Hair Desert Boot [SHOES]

These would be fun for New Years Eve! I am fan of the desert boot silhouette...on top of that I find texture on footwear is playful. I feel YMC pulled this off very well...though not for you for the average.
