The Sprint Factory [JOURNALISM]

Just why do Jamaicans run so fast? A excellent question to ask as we "run up" the 2012 Olympics in London. Adrienne Arsenault from CBC travels to the island nation to find out why exactly the nation the population of average city excels in track and field by "leaps and bounds". Too many puns? Me nuh bizniz!

Usain Bolt Sets A New World Record For Mens 100m [SPORTS]

A performance that solidifies him as the fastest man in the world (Again, as he set the previous world record a year ago with a time of 9.69), Usain Bolt ran the 100m in a mindbusting 9.58 seconds at the 12th IAAF World Championships in Athletics at the Olympic Stadium in Berlin August 16th 2009. Which coincidentally was exactly 1 year after he set his initial world record. Take look at the footage here.

Vybz Kartel Rum [LIQUOR]

I really wanted to think of something witty to say regarding this...but meh...I'll try it, and let you know how it goes. I actually think its an ingenious idea. Jamaica can stand to have more than Appleton and Wray & Nephew in the rum department.

“Launching hits that are popular in the club scene is pretty sweet and all, but until you’ve launched your own branded non-music product, you haven’t really made it in the music business.

That’s why Adidja Palmer, known in the Jamaican dancehall world as Vybz Kartel, went into the rum business. Well, that, and having your own line of premium handcrafted rums is pretty damn cool.

To make sure the bottle was sexy enough for the upscale dancehall crowd, Vybz entrusted the branding to Project 13, who knows sexy. We also know a little something about logo and label design, plus the printing and production processes, all of which helped us tackle the challenges of designing branding for a rum bottle with no flat surfaces. Undaunted, we developed a unique shoulder wrap and neck label featuring a contemporary VYBZ logo that instantly lets discriminating rum drinkers know they’re in the presence of a premium product.

Organic line work and a regal seal of excellence ensure an elegant look, while the incorporation of a small hummingbird in the design gives a nod to the rum’s Jamaican roots. We also designed with function in mind, as each label must be hand applied and numbered during bottling, a slow and exacting process appropriate to the slow and exacting process of making the triple-distilled silver rum and handcrafted oak-aged rum that are the pillars of the Vybz brand.”

Thanks Cherry!

"Banksy x Jamaica" Piece on eBay for $100k

The Afflicted Yard: The Rock from firstjamaica on Vimeo.

This is just insane really...the story is Banksy goes to Jamaica (Yard) and leaves behind a memento on the wall of a bar in Kingston. Unbeknown to him, the brothers from the Jamaican based art & culture website Afflicted Yard were at that very bar! They wait four years, return and remove the wall, document the entire operation and now have it up on the bay for 100 stacks!

If I had Arab money I would pick that joint up in heartbeat! But since I have Jamaican money...I'll retire to my Wall & Piece hardcover and collection of photographs.

Dancehall Draft Picks - Movado

Simply the biggest thing in dancehall music right now (Diplo had to drop 3 of his records back to back last night at Circa!) Mavado has crafted a name for him through his music.

This video is one piece of the Dancehall Draft Picks documentary released by VP Records.
